I am interested in questioning the idea of time (historical time, real time, fictional time) and I use the cinema aesthetics to emphasis the connection between these different moments.I am particularly interested in using the documentary form for its characteristic to inform viewers while showing a true story or reality to the public. In contrast to the documentary aesthetic, my videos show the impossibility of establishing a true line in the reconstruction of a tale. I work with real stories, real people, involving them in situation in which they face idealism (Italy is a democratic republic founded on labour) social issues (Muctar) confront their past (The sun shines in Kiev) or reinterpret history (Shooting on de Dam) through a cinematographic experience. The personal narration of an experience makes the historical events into a story. In the video The sun shines in Kiev most of the footage is missing and all the information is sensitive and in contradiction with each other. The reality of the archival footage seems to emerge from the personal memory, like a dream created by the narration itself. I’m interested in the traces, in the leftovers of history: documents, films, photos, they are another subjective view of the reality. Only when these images are interpreted, decoded and shared with others, they develop into new meanings. (Congo Congo Bruxelles Brussel, The cinematography is the strongest weapon) I’m interested in the gap between history and its interpretation, between the experience and its archiving.
